Additives for Mechanical Excavation (TBM)

Mechanical excavation, as a tunnel construction method, ensures high performance compared to the traditional ‘Drill and Blast’ method or operator machines (such as hammers, etc.).

In fact, it is possible to achieve advances of over 10 meters per day, which could never be reached with other excavation technologies.

Furthermore, being an industrialized system, it reduces labor costs and ensures greater worker safety and a healthier working environment. Depending on the method of applying support pressure to the excavation front, we have two different types of ‘TBM shielded’ with a closed face:

• EPB-type TBM
• Hydroshield-type TBM

Prochin Italia formulates various types of foaming additives for soil conditioning in collaboration with leading universities to also monitor environmental aspects.

Prochin Italia produces specific additives to fill the annular gap between the soil and the tunnel lining during the TBM advancement. To ensure the workability of the mortar, Protard products are used. Profast accelerators are used to control the set-up and curing time process.

Polyurethane injection resins are mainly used for waterproof sealing of cracks and fissures in concrete structures, tunnels, and underground structures.
