In water treatment, soluble silicates have no contraindications and are often used in drinking water to remove discoloration and inhibit pipe corrosion.

In rainwater, they disperse and neutralize quickly. Nevertheless, the user must check the pH limits allowed by the relevant authorities for discharge. The resulting silica mixtures are chemically identical to those found in nature.
